Welcome to
Aughton Surgery

Our mission statement: To provide an appropriate and rewarding experience for our patients whenever they need our support.

Hospital Waiting Times

We are aware that patients are experiencing lengthy delays in accessing treatment after being referred to secondary care. This is a national problem which you will likely have seen various reports about in the media.

To help you see how long you might expect to wait for your hospital appointment, we would like to direct you to the ‘My Planned Care’ website. This website will provide information about waiting times for each individual hospital across the country and it is speciality specific.

The website is updated on a regular basis, so the information that is on there should be accurate and up to date.

My Planned Care can be accessed by clicking here.

Practice Car Park

The practice made changes to our car parking arrangements on Tuesday 30th May 2023.
For further information, please click here. Please ensure that you are aware of this information before attending the surgery.

Practice Telephone System

The main practice telephone number is: 01695 317350

This is the number for both reception and prescription ordering, so please ensure you select the relevant menu option to get through to the correct team.

PLEASE NOTE: All incoming and outgoing calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

BBC The One Show

Back in June 2022, our surgery featured on BBC’s ‘The One Show’, if you missed it at the time, you can watch us on the above video clip! The programme featured the fantastic work that was done by our ex-Practice Nurse, Maggi Bradley on Video Group Consultations (VGC’s). Maggi unfortunately left the practice in February 2023, but we are still immensely proud of the work that she done whilst she was a member of the team.

COVID Vaccines

The practice is no longer part of the COVID vaccination programme.

If you have not yet had your COVID Booster and you would like to arrange to have one, you will need to ring 119 or click here to book online.

Online Symptom Checkers

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital have developed an online symptom checker that can be used to determine the best course of action, and where best to get the right care for your child.

This can be accessed by clicking here.

There is also an online symptom checker that can be used for both adults and children via NHS 111. By using this tool, you are able to request a call back from clinicians from the 111 service 24/7 if the outcome of your symptom checker suggests this would be appropriate. The system can also direct you to other services and organisations that may be useful.

The 111 online service can be accessed by clicking here.

Video of the challenges we are currently facing

Please watch the above video which is an update from clinical partner, Dr Darran Harris. The video highlights the challenges that we, and all other GP surgeries are currently facing. We hope this will be informative and give you a better understanding of the current situation and climate that we are dealing with.

Our reception staff are facing a torrent of abuse on a daily basis, and struggle to cope when their intentions are always to help provide the best service that we can. Primary care in general across the country is seeing an unprecedented increase in demand for services, and we are currently dealing with more patient requests, and offering more appointments than we ever have done before. Abuse of any kind towards staff will not be tolerated, and if the need arises, patients will be removed from the practice list without warning.

Appointments

Please be aware of the below, which is the system that we operate for booking appointments:

Pre-Bookable Appointments – Released at 2pm every Monday afternoon

These pre-bookable appointments are routine, and are booked 2 weeks ahead. They can be booked with our GP’s, Physician Associate and FCP. We offer a mixture of telephone and face-to-face appointments.

Urgent on the Day Appointments – Released at 8am every weekday morning

These are for more urgent problems that can’t wait for a routine slot. They are released at 8am every morning with our GP’s, Paramedics, and Physician Associate depending on who is in clinic each day. Please be aware that we cannot accommodate requests to be booked with a particular clinician when it is an urgent on the day appointment.

Alternative Options

The practice offers an online consultation system whereby you can submit details of routine medical problems, and a GP will respond within 2 working days. This system is NOT to be used for urgent needs. You can access the system by clicking here.

You are able to ring NHS 111 or use NHS 111 Online (Available 24/7) who will provide assessment of your symptoms and relevant advice. They can book you directly in to local services such as Urgent Care Centres and A&E departments. NHS 111 Online can be accessed by clicking here.

We also have the option of weekday evening and weekend appointments available with GP’s, ANP’s, and Practice Nurses via the Extended Access Service. These appointments are only bookable through reception.

Please note: We will NOT tolerate any kind of abuse towards our reception staff. Any such abuse will be dealt with under our Zero Tolerance policy, and patients may be removed from the practice list without notice.
