Recognition of Innovation at Nursing Times Awards
Each year, The Nursing Times Awards (NTAs) celebrate innovation and best practice in nursing across the UK. This year Aughton Surgery received the only shortlisted nomination for a Primary Care Surgery, for our work in ensuring that patients with chronic health conditions could receive high quality, face-to-face, healthcare and peer support during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Nominated for the prestigious HRH The Prince of Wales Award for Integrated Approaches to Care, our small team went head-to-head with major trusts from across the UK, showcasing their work on the development of Video Group Clinics (VGCs).
The inspiration and leader behind the VGC initiative is our Practice Nurse, Maggi Bradley. She said, “When the pandemic struck, we were extremely worried for our patients, particularly those with chronic long-term conditions. By taking an innovative and collaborative approach, with support from a range of specialists, we’ve been able to maintain, even improve patient care, without in-person contact. The success of the VGC model has surpassed our expectations and it’s fast becoming an additional, resilient, tool for nurses across the UK.”
Dr Darran Harris, Partner at Aughton Surgery, was a member of the team attending the event, Dr Harris said “We are incredibly proud to have reached the NTA finals. We had the most amazing evening, and it was great to see Maggi and the team, including three student nurses from Edge Hill University, being recognised for the incredible work they have undertaken to deliver truly holistic care to patients with long-term conditions or complex needs. We are incredibly proud that they, and Aughton Surgery, have been able to make a big difference to patient care throughout and beyond such difficult times.”
