Practice Nurse of the Year Award

Maggi Bradley, one of our Practice Nurses at Aughton Surgery, recently received the prestigious title of ‘Practice Nurse of the Year’ at the 13th Annual General Practice Awards. These awards set out to recognise the incredible work carried out by all of our amazing primary care colleagues across the country.

Judges said, “Maggi gave us reason to clap our hands, remaining steadfast and diligent during this period, operating business as usual, and then some, in the face of a global pandemic.”

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Maggi saw that her patients were beginning to manifest feelings of isolation, fear, and anxiety. Realising that continuing access to GP services was needed more than ever but face-to-face visits weren’t possible, Maggi turned her focus to digital solutions, establishing Video Group Clinics (VGCs) to reach out to people in need; providing healthcare, advice, and support, first to cancer patients, then to others suffering with long term chronic conditions.

A career pathway was also established for student nurses, motivating them to become a part of the future of Primary Care.

Accepting her award, Maggi said, “This continues to be an incredibly difficult and worrying time for patients with chronic conditions. The trust and bond between patient and healthcare provider is ever more important and I am honoured to be able to offer support for those who need it most. This award is a celebration for all Practice Nurses who go above and beyond to care for people in our communities.”
