Register with the practice

We welcome requests for registration from Aughton, Bickerstaffe, Downholland, Halsall, Haskayne, South Ormskirk and Westhead. Please contact Reception for more details.

Please complete a registration form available from the practice, or alternatively this can be downloaded to print out and bring in from the link below. When registering, please bring Photo ID and a proof of your address with you. On registering you will be offered an appointment with the Practice Nurse. Patients are registered with the Practice, not an individual GP, and may see any of the Doctors. We will, however, try to accommodate any preference.

Our registration form can be downloaded by clicking here: PATIENT REGISTRATION FORM

All routine appointments are available to pre-book with all of our GPs up to 3 weeks in advance. Please contact Reception at any time to book one. Alternatively, if you have an urgent acute problem that you feel needs seeing on the day, you can ring any morning at 08:15 to book an Urgent 5 Minute Appointment.

Routine appointments can also be booked online using EMIS Access. You will need a username and password, this can be obtained in the surgery. Please bring Photo ID and a proof of address with you. Please contact the surgery for more information.

Aughton Surgery is taking part in a pilot scheme to be able to offer appointments outside of core GP hours.

There will be a limited number of weekend and evening appointments available to access a GP appointment, Practice Nurse appointment and appointments for blood tests.

These appointments will be for clinics held at Sandy Lane Health Centre in Skelmersdale, and the West Lancs Health Centre in Ormskirk, and are for patients who need to see a GP or Practice Nurse outside of normal GP commissioned hours of 8am to 6:30pm.

Appointments must be pre-booked by Aughton Surgery. Please call the surgery on 01695 736300 to book one of these appointments if required.

Home Visits

These are for people who are physically unable to attend the surgery. Several patients can be seen in the surgery in the time it takes to make a home visit. If you are too ill to attend please ring the surgery between 9.00 and 10.30am, giving the receptionists an outline of the problem.

Out of Hours

Out of hours emergency medical cover is provided by NHS 111 and can be contacted anytime by dialling “111”. In a life threatening emergency please dial “999”.

Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are only given after they are agreed with the doctor and entered onto your repeat register.

Prescriptions are now ordered through the West Lancashire Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) Service.

You can order your prescription by ticking the Right Hand Side of your prescription slip, phoning the POD on 01695 588522 or by visiting Patient Access. Your prescription will then be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy.

Once your prescription has been processed it will be authorised by your GP and sent to the pharmacy within 2 working days, please allow additional time for the pharmacy to get your prescription ready.

The POD is open Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm

Telephone Advice

If you need to speak to one of the doctors or the practice nurse or if you have been asked to ring, please ring and ask to pre-book a telephone consultation.

Test Results

It is the patients responsibility to ring and follow up on their test results. Results are available after 10:30am and can be obtained from Reception. Please be advised though that the Reception team are not medically trained, and if you have questions about your individual tests, you will be advised to book a telephone consultation with one of the GPs who will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Travel Vaccinations

If you’re going on holiday and you need travel vaccinations before you go, you will need to complete a travel vaccination form and hand it in to reception. The practice nurse will then have a look at your record to see if you need any, and if so, our Reception team will contact you to make an appointment. Please note, you need to have your vaccinations at least 2 weeks before you travel, and our nurse appointments are often pre-booked a couple of weeks in advance, so please plan ahead and leave plenty of time. The travel vaccination forms can be collected from Reception, or alternatively you can download and print it here: Travel Vaccination Form

Certain services are not included on the NHS, eg private certificates for employers, employment medicals, fitness to drive (HGV), certificates for private medical care (eg BUPA), etc. Please check if a fee is payable.

Publication of GP Earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Aughton Surgery in the last financial year was £58,403 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 1 full time GP, 2 part time GPs,  1 salaried GP and 1 locum GP who worked in the practice for more then six months.”

Our disclaimer

NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised, and the required disclosure is shown above. However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.
